Our commitment
We are committed to protecting clients and others from abuse, neglect, discrimination, avoidable harm and exploitation. We want people to feel safe, heard and treated with dignity.
What safeguarding means
Safeguarding includes preventing and responding to concerns about abuse or neglect. This may include physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, financial or material abuse, discriminatory abuse, organisational abuse, domestic abuse, self-neglect, neglect and acts of omission, modern slavery or other forms of harm.
How we support safeguarding
- Safer recruitment processes and suitability checks where required
- Training and awareness for staff
- Clear reporting routes for concerns, incidents and whistleblowing
- Respectful, person-focused care and professional boundaries
- Working with families, professionals and local safeguarding processes where appropriate
- Reviewing incidents and concerns to strengthen practice
Raising a concern
Anyone can raise a safeguarding concern, including clients, family members, staff, neighbours, visitors or professionals. If you are worried that someone may be at risk, please contact us immediately.
If there is immediate danger or a medical emergency, call 999.
What we do when concerns are raised
- Take concerns seriously and act without unnecessary delay
- Record the concern appropriately
- Escalate internally and externally where required
- Work with relevant authorities, professionals and safeguarding teams
- Take action to reduce risk and support the person involved
- Review learning and strengthen practice where needed
Listening to the person
Where possible, we will listen to the person at the centre of the concern, respect their dignity, and consider their wishes, feelings, communication needs and best interests in line with applicable law and guidance.
Whistleblowing
Staff are expected and encouraged to report concerns about unsafe practice, poor care, abuse, neglect or wrongdoing. Concerns raised in good faith will be taken seriously.
Further action
Safeguarding concerns may be referred to local authority safeguarding teams, the police, health professionals, commissioners, regulators or other appropriate agencies depending on the nature and seriousness of the concern.
